The story behind the name
“Hold the fort, help is coming.”
In 1864, a small band of soldiers at Allatoona Pass, Georgia, was surrounded and badly outnumbered. As the story is told, a signal flashed from a distant mountain: hold the fort, help is coming. They held, and the fort stood. Years later, Philip P. Bliss wrote the hymn “Hold the Fort” from that story.
Christ came at Christmas, just as God promised. And He has promised to come again. Until then, we hold the fort.
“But that which ye have already hold fast till I come.”
